What does BackLeft mean?
I started out as a commercial river guide on the Arkansas River many years ago, teaching high schoolers how to raft and kayak and training guides how to be better boaters and teachers. Also, taking many, many guided trips for the public down many stretches of the Arkansas River for many years.
When guiding paddle rafts, there are really 5 commands to use to control the boat that make the boat go forward, backwards, turn left, turn right or drift with the current.
The commands have changed since then and they also tend to be different depending on the company, but the ones I learned at the start were:
All Forward
All Back
Back Left
Back Right
Drift
I needed a connection from my work now to the river community that I have loved for many, many years. in thinking about names, All Forward, All Back and Drift didn’t fit. Ultimately, it came down to which domain flowed better (pun intended) and BackLeft was it.
